FebFast and St. Oswald’s
For the last 3 years the parish has been supporting FebFast, a secular type of Lenten fasting when, during the month of February, participants abstain from alcohol and/or other favourite foods and the money saved by doing so is given to YSAS (Youth Support Advocacy Service).
Dom Ennis from YSAS came to St. Oswald’s and spoke about what it does amongst vulnerable young people tackling their alcohol, drug, and mental health issues and their social disconnection, achieving considerable success over more than 15 years. Many parishioners donated money by acting as their sponsors and others gave donations directly. The Walking group gave all the proceeds of a fund-raising lunch to YSAS and altogether the parish contributed around $1000 to the appeal. Although FebFast is its main annual appeal to the public, YSAS is always grateful for donations the year round.
